Edit Text in PDF
Edit Text is built for those moments when the PDF is almost right, but one or two details need to change before the file goes out. It is ideal for fixing a typo, correcting a date, changing a name, replacing a short phrase, or updating a small block of wording without starting over.
This workflow is different from simply typing on top of the page. If you need to change existing words that are already part of the document, Edit Text is the right fit. If you need to place brand-new text onto a blank line or form-like area, Add Text is usually better.
When to use Edit Text
- Fix typos in a PDF report, contract, or draft
- Update names, dates, addresses, totals, or reference numbers
- Change a short sentence or label before sending the file
- Clean up a document without converting it to another format
How to edit text in a PDF
- Upload your PDF
- Select the text area you need to cover or replace
- Enter the replacement text if needed
- Apply the edit and download the updated PDF
What affects editability
PDF editing works best when the file already contains a real text layer. Documents exported from Word, Google Docs, or similar software are usually easier to work with. Scanned PDFs can be much harder because the page may only be an image.
If the file is scanned, run OCR PDF first so the document becomes searchable and easier to work with.
